Young succeeds in his unsympathetic role; Johnson does marvels with her scenes as his spouse. Cast includes Susan Hayward, Robert Young, Jane Greer, Rita Johnson, Tom Powers, Don Beddoe, and Blunt Ferguson. (95 minutes,’47)
Dementia Thirteen: Gory terror film set before the operation that changed her life. This is one of the more unique yet strange romantic comedies of our time. The film is kept on target by the quality acting of Mackintosh, who pulls off a difficult role. Cast includes William Campbell, Luana Anders, Bart Patton, Mary Mitchel, and Patrick Magee. Deliverance: This is an excellent re-creation of the Dickey novel of 4 Atlanta businessmen who get more than they can handle throughout a weekend canoe trip. McKinney and Coward are 2 of the most horrifying film scoundrels in history. The “Dueling Banjos” scene is very memorable. Film debuts of Beatty and Cox. James Dickey adjusted his own novel, and appears in the film as a sheriff. Ed O’Neill appears as a freeway watcher near end of film. Heartaches: Pregnant Potts drops spouse Carradine who is not the child’s dad and becomes the unwilling friend of gentleman-seeking screwball Kidder. Fine lead performances kindle this little comedy. Cuba Crossing: Our lead man Stuart Whitman becomes embroiled in a plot to take out Fidel Castro. Filmed in Key West, Florida, and a minimum of the landscape is pretty.
