Striptease: Erin Grant is a stripper at the Eager Beaver. She is trying to raise enough money to get her daughter back from her divorced jerk of a former husband. Things spin out of control for Erin when a corrupt congressman comes to the club and takes a liking to her.
Mystery Alaska: Remote Alaskan town’s hockey team is given the possibility to play the N.Y. Rangers as a publicity stunt. There is a hodgepodge cast of characters and an unavoidable big game finale. Crowe is the only one to ascend above the material. Cast includes Russell Crowe, Burt Reynolds, Hank Azaria, Mary McCormack, Lolita Davidovich, Mike Myers, and Little Richard. (118 minutes,’99)
Stage Fright: Theater student Wyman turns covert sleuth because an actress’ spouse is killed. There are some stimulating scenes however the Mr. Hitchcock misses on this one. Cast includes Marlene Dietrich, Jane Wyman, Richard Todd, Kay Walsh, Aastair Sim, Joyce Grenfell, Sybil Thorndike, and Patricia Hitchcock. (110 minutes,’50)
Just a Gigolo: Extremely fascinating cast is the best part of this odd melodrama featuring Bowie as a Prussian war vet who floats from job to job in Berlin before ultimately finding his real purpose. Dietrich, in her last film appearance, pops in long enough to sing the title melody. Rome’s vigorous performance gives lift to choppy film. Cast includes David Bowie, Sydne Rome, Kim Novak, David Hemmings, Maria Schell, Curt Jurgens, and Marlene Dietrich. (105 minutes,’79)
Only the Strong: An Ex-Green Beret, his old Miami high school friend now bullied by a drug lord, turns twelve of the joint’s worst criminals into crime-busters by teaching them a hypnotic, Brazilian form of martial arts. They will now settle the score. Dopey however inoffensive; at its best in potently choreographed fight scenes. Cast includes Mark Dacascos, Stacey Travis, Geoffrey Lewis, Paco Christian Prieto, Todd Susman, Jeffrey and Anderson Gunter. (96 minutes,’93)
