Thunderheart – There have been a number of murders on the Sioux Indian Reservation. The FBI goes in to deal with the situation. One agent, Ray Levoi, has Sioux blood. As he examines the case he soon discovers there is much more going on than some arbitrary murders.
Cuba Crossing – Our lead man Stuart Whitman becomes involved in a plan to take out Fidel Castro. Filmed in Key West, Florida, and at minimum the landscape is pretty. Cast includes Stuart Whitman, Robert Vaughn, Caren Kaye, Raymond St. Jacques, Woody Strode, Sybil Danning, Albert Salmi, and Michael Gazzo. (90 minutes, 1980)
Mysterious Lady – An Austrian armed forces officer (Nagel) falls in love with Garbo, naive that she is a Russian agent. Another artificial plot made serviceable by Garbo herself. Cast includes Greta Garbo, Conrad Nagel, Gustav von Seyffertitz, Albert Pollet, and Edward Connelly. (96 minutes, 1928)
Rhapsody in Blue – Hollywood biography of George Gershwin is largely fiction, although comes off better than most other composer biographies, seizing Gershwin’s exhilaration for his work, and some of his central conflicts. Cast includes Robert Aida, Joan Leslie, Alexis Smith, Oscar Levant, Charles Coburn, Hazel Scott, and Al Jolson. (139 minutes, 1945)
The Accidental Tourist – This film tells the story of Macon Leary, who is lethargic after the loss of his son. This is compounded more when his wife decides to leave him because he won’t snap out of it. With a divorce around the corner he finds himself mixed up with a new woman, who is helping bring him back to life. Now his wife decides to have him back, and he is faced with more tough questions. William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Geena Davis, Amy Wright, and Bill Pullman star. (1988 Drama)
Inferno – American returns to N.Y. from school in Rome to research the hideous death of his sibling, and finds “sinister moms” inflicting paranormal chaos on both sides of Atlantic. Surreal, mesmerizing shocker by Italian terror genius Argento doesn’t make much sense, but it has a lot of style. Cast includes Leigh McCloskey, Irene Marvel, Sacha Pitoeff, Daria Nicolodi, Eleonora Giorgi, Veronica Lazar, and Alida Valli. (107 minutes, 1984)
Rampage – Pregnant Long Island housewife, unable to deal with married life escapes her husband and picks up a simple minded football player on the street. Cast includes Michael Biehn, AIex McArthur, Robert Duvall, Marya Zimmet, Tom Aldredge, and Laurie Crewes. (97 minutes, 1992)
