It is hard for me to believe in many ways, but this year has definitely been enormous for the legendary rock band The Beatles. Many Beatles dreams came true this year because their music was finally remastered for release on CD.
2009’s most popular Beatles release has been this awesome box set. It’s been a huge seller and for good reason. It includes their complete’62-1970 discography in brilliantly digitally remastered stereo. It sounds absolutely brilliant (these CDs are far better than the ‘87 Beatles discs you probably own now.)
The biggest improvements compared to the old discs can be heard in the way Paul McCartney’s bass guitar cuts through the mix like never before and Ringo’s drums sound far better than they used to as well. Another obvious improvement is in the way the vocals sound, particularly the clarity of the backing vocals.
The release that has gained the most attention of hardcore Beatles fans is probably the mono box because it’s the first time in many years that the original mono mixes of The Beatles music has been easily available.
Many “purist” Beatles fans believe that these mono mixes were really the way their music was originally meant to be listened to and they have a good reason to believe that. It was the mono mixes that most people listened to back in the’60s and The Beatles spent the majority of their time working on getting the mono mixes just right. In comparison the stereo mixes were little more than an afterthought.
Beatles Stereo USB Memory Stick
The Beatles USB is essentially a digital version of The Beatles in Stereo Box Set. It includes both high quality mp3 files and audiophile “better than CD” 24bit FLAC files. Along with the obvious audio component, this USB stick also includes the visual parts of the box set such as the thirteen album documentaries, the extended liner notes, and the photographs.
The Apple USB memory stick is compatible with both PC and Mac computers. The mp3s should work with no problems with your mp3 player (whether you own an iPod, a Zune, or a generic mp3 player.)
