8 Percent Women: While a triumphant businessman is widowed, his child tries to help him through his misery by taking him on a sensual odyssey. The females range from a prior nun Collette to a horsewoman (Plummer) who wears a weird see through harness. Copious nudity couldn’t keep this from being a massive bore. Cast includes John Sitting, Matthew Delamere, Vivian Wu, Shizuka lnoh, Barbara Sarafian, Manna Fujiwara, and Polly Stroller. (121 minutes,’99)
Deep Impact: With a comet on a collision course for Earth. A decision is made to send a space ship out to intercept the comet, and ’seed’ it with nuclear bombs. The explosion splits the comet in two, with the smaller part still heading toward Earth. With a devastating impact looming, it is learned that 1 million Americans will be chosen by lottery to go underground into a network of caves built to survive the impact, and the following sequence of disasters.
King and 4 Queens: Static misfire with Gable on the run he stole from the men of 4 females he confronts. Cast includes Clark Gable, Eleanor Parker, Jo Van Fleet, Jean Wiles, Barbara Nichols, Sara Shane, and Jay C. Flip. (86 minutes,’56)
Liar Liar: Fletcher Reede is a hard working lawyer who is constantly disappointing his wonderful young son. Eventually, before blowing out the candles at his birthday, Max makes his wish. He wants his father to not be able to lie for one full day. The results are absolutely hilarious.
Ivan the Terrible: Continuance of the legend of King Ivan IV, in which he takes on the boyars in a battle for power. Impressive film is just a shade underneath its predecessor, Banned by Stalin due to debatable illustration of Ivan’s secret patrol, and not discharged till’58. Cast includes Nikolai Cherkassov; Serafima Birman, Mikhail Nazvanov, Pavel Kadochnikov, and Andrei Abrikosov. (88 minutes,’46)
In Enemy Country: So-so WW2 story, set in France and England, filmed on a back-lot. Not extremely persuading. Cast includes Tony Franciosa, Anjanette Comer, Man Stockwell, Paul Hubschmid, Tom Bell, and Emile Genest. (107 minutes,’68)
The Great Race: Long, occasionally ludicrous, often labored comedy, not the best ever made as promoted. Fight pattern and barroom fight are highlights, although the pie scene falls flat, and other gimmicks don’t work. This is absolutely a mixed bag, some parts good and some bad. Cast includes Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood, Jack Lemmon, Peter Falk, Keenan Wynn, Larry Storch, and George Macready. (150 minutes,’65)
Those of you looking for file downloads could try a search with “Purchase Movie”. If that phrase gets you nowhere, try another phrase. “Rent DVDs Online” would be worth a try.
